Yale Lifting Magnet Features

These Yale permanent magnet lifters are from the tried and trusted TPM range. They are capable of lifting cylindrical objects as well as sheet materials although with a reduced lifting capacity, typically by 50%. This is due to the smaller area of contact between the magnet and the object.

Each magnet incorporates a robust lifting eye on the top side for anchoring to the load hook of a lifting hoist. You will also notice a side lever, this is what provides the permanent magnetic force when locked down onto the surface of the object to be lifted. It will remain connected until the lever is unlocked, releasing the magnetic grip.

There is an additional lock on the lever which, when engaged will ensure the magnet can not de-magnetise unintentionally and release the load.

Using The Yale Magnetic Lifter

It is essential to consult the manual prior to using the Yale TPM lifting magnet. Because there are a fluctuations in the specifications of use depending on the model chosen. You will see from the specification tables that there are differences to the SWL depending on whether flat or round objects are to be lifted. There are also differences to the minimum thickness of the materials as well as a maximum length. When lifting round objects there will also be a safe diameter range which must be adhered to.

The tear off force is also stipulated in the specifications, this is the load weight at which the load can become disconnected, this figure is 3 times the stated safe working load for optimum safety. NEVER exceed the stated SWL.

There is a maximum length which a single magnet can lift safely. However more than one magnet can be used on the same object to enable larger sheets to be safely lifted. When a single magnet is used it should be placed at the centre of gravity. When two or more are used they should be positioned equidistant from gravities centre to ensure stability.

A key issue when it comes to using a magnetic lifter is the cleanliness of the magnetic plate and the surface of the sheet material. If there is dust, scale, paint or any other particles on the surfaces then air gaps can form between the magnet and the sheet material. These air gaps will affect the lifting capacity of the magnet. Reduced capacities must be used in these instances.

Magnet Lifter Maintenance

This type of plate lifting equipment requires little maintenance. Keeping it clean, paying particular attention to the lifting plate is just about all that is required. However a yearly thorough inspection according to LOLER regulations are required to continued safe use.
