Learn how to move furniture, machines and other heavy loads in the home or workplace with our simple load moving equipment in the form of moving skates.
This blog article looks into some simple equipment that can be used in the home, office, factory, warehouse, workshop and more. Our range of load moving equipment can be used to move furniture items and cabinetry, machinery including washing machines or industrial machines or any other large or heavy load.
The equipment we are talking about are load moving skates, sometimes called machine skates or dollies. They are great for load moving in the home or workplace.
What are Machine Skates?
To put it simply, machine skates are a low platform on wheels. They sit low to the ground and have multiple wheels under a solid base/platform.
The idea is to slide a skate, or multiple skates underneath the item to be moved, for example a loaded filing cabinet or tool cupboard. Then the load itself is pushed, thus moving the wheels on the skates to move the item easily to its new location.
How to get Machine skates under the load?
If you have a large or heavy load then getting the skates positioned underneath can be a little difficult. Sometime all that is needed is a little brute strength to tilt the item, just enough to slip a skate under. You will probably need an extra pair of hands or 2. Another way is to use a crow bar or roller crow bar to pry up the load. This method enables you to apply more force to the crow bar, thus raising a heavier or tightly packed in load that can not be tilted.Types of Load Moving Skates
Not all skates are the same, they come in a range of formats and some come in kit form with multiple skates, and some have more wheels than others. There is also a number of options for the amount of load the skates can handle. Our Lifting Equipment Store has 3 models available. Firstly the Viper VRS which has 2 model options, one with 3 wheels and a 2000kg capacity. The second has 5 wheels and a 4000kg capacity. They both incorporate a central turntable, enabling loads to pivot for easier positioning.
The Viper VMMS range is a load moving kit, incorporating 4 key pieces. There is the larger front section with a turntable and a removable long handle for easier steering. There are also two rear trailing skates for positioning under the load opposite the steerable section for good load stability. These machine skate sets come in various capacities that are able to cope with loads from 8 tonne up to 48 tonne depending on the model chosen.
